Planning

Local councils such as Town and Parish Councils do not have a statutory responsibility for services such as planning.  The responsibility for the discharge of this function in the majority of cases rests with District and Borough Councils as the Local Authority.  For Ixworth & Ixworth Thorpe the authority is West Suffolk District Council.

West Suffolk District Council notifies Ixworth & Ixworth Thorpe Parish Council of any applications they have accepted and relate to land within the Parish.  The Parish Council have 21 days to respond. If an ordinary meeting of the Parish Council falls within 21 days period, and there is time for it to be included on the agenda, it will be discussed at that meeting.  If the 21 days period falls prior to the next ordinary meeting or the application arrived too late to be included on an agenda, then an extra meeting can be called for the Parish Council to respond to the application.

The Parish Council, when responding to applications, will be base their responses on Planning Policy.  The Parish Council can only take certain issues into account when considering an application, these are often referred to as ‘material planning considerations’. Click here to see further details

Members of the public are invited to attend these meetings and there will be an opportunity for members of the public to make comment on the applications being discussed.

If you are unable to attend the meeting but would like to advise the Council of any concerns you may have, please email the clerk – email
