Annual Parish Meeting

The Annual Parish Meeting is the meeting where the Parish Council report to its electorate on what it has accomplished in the preceding year.

Electors, public and press are invited to hear reports from the Chairman, County & District Councillors, community groups and any organisation that the Parish Council has funded during the year.

All Parish and Town Councils throughout England are required by law to hold an Annual Parish Meeting, which must take place between 1st March and the 1st June (inclusive). Meetings should not commence before 6.00 pm. and should not be held on licenced premises.

The Annual Parish Meeting is a meeting of all the local government electors for the Parish, which the public can participate in. It is NOT a Meeting of the Parish Council.  Anyone may attend but only registered electors of Ixworth & Ixworth Thorpe Parish may speak and vote during the meeting.

The Chairperson of the Parish Council will chair the meeting. If the Chairperson or Vice-chairperson is not able to attend, then the meeting will elect a Chairperson from amongst those electors present.

Any registered elector may ask questions of the Council, which will usually be answered by the Chairperson, the Clerk to the Council, or a designated Councillor.
An elector may also make suggestions and comment on anything pertinent to the people of Ixworth & Ixworth Thorpe. This will be welcomed and is the whole purpose of the meeting.

Parish Councillors usually attend and will speak if need be. But the purpose of the meeting is to enable the ordinary electors to have their say. Councillors will listen with interest and as electors themselves, also have the opportunity to raise questions and make comments if they wish.

The length of the meeting is dependent on the number of electors present, the number of questions asked and the discussion that is raised. Generally, the meeting will not last longer than two hours.

A written record of the meeting will be taken and will be presented at a future meeting of Council for their consideration.  The record will then be published below.

No meeting was held in 2020 due to COVID.
